At first glance The Muppets don't really fit with the likes of Balenciaga and Schiaparelli, but really... Jim Henson was a master of entertainment and visual communication. The worlds he created were so distinctive and so engaging they're still going strong since he first started puppetering in the fifties.
I was a little girl in the 70s so I was raised on Seasame Street and The Muppet Show (1976 to 1981) and the Muppet movies. I also had Kermit the Frog doll and a Miss Piggy tshirt, which I distinctly remember wearing with a pair of blue satin short shorts. The Muppet Show was my religion and I distinctly remember watching the actress Madeleine Khan's guest appearance on Seasame St.
Recently I bought my friend a fabulous vintage (1982 or something)Miss Piggy calendar for her birthday. I know I would have loved it if I'd owned it as a child, but looking at it as an adult I was amazed at how brilliant it was. Each month featured a Miss Piggy spoof cover shoot for various popular magazines and Piggy's costumes, the coverlines and settings are nothing short of genius.
Anyway, here are some pics of the fabulous Muppets, which will hopefully remind you of how brilliant they are.
